Cowboy Couple Photos
We had quite the adventure for Cole and Chy’s session! From the moment we arrived at their chosen location, it was clear this was going to be more than just a typical photo session—it was going to be an experience, one that perfectly reflected their lifestyle and love story. The rolling sagebrush, the open skies of western Oklahoma, and the dust kicked up by hooves and boots set the scene for an unforgettable evening. These cowboy couple photos were not only fun but memorable.

Cole and Chy brought along their two horses, a true reflection of their cowboy way of life. There’s something so special about photographing couples in their element, and for these two, that meant starting off their session riding through the sagebrush. The golden evening light filtered through the dust, creating the most incredible glow around them as they rode side by side, their laughter carried by the breeze. Their bond was evident in every interaction—playful glances exchanged between them, the way Chy’s hand brushed against Cole’s as they guided their horses through the terrain, the way they naturally fit together in the wide-open landscape.

One of the most special parts of this session was capturing the process of them unsaddling their horses. These everyday moments—ones they likely don’t even think twice about—are some of the most meaningful to document. It’s easy to pose a couple in a beautiful setting, but there’s something powerful about capturing them in their natural rhythm, doing the things that make up the fabric of their daily life. Watching them work together, instinctively knowing what needed to be done, was a reminder that love isn’t just about the grand, romantic gestures—it’s about the small, simple moments of teamwork and companionship.

Of course, it wasn’t just Cole and Chy who made this session special. Their dog joined in on the adventure, happily trotting along beside them, eager to be part of the action. Including animals in a session always adds an element of spontaneity, and this was no exception. Whether it was running alongside the horses or sitting proudly next to them for a portrait, their pup added another layer of personality to the session.

We took some time for just the two of them where they got to play like kids, laughing together, and just enjoying the company of one another. Sessions with me are so much more than just smiling at the camera and me telling you to say cheese. In fact, we actually do very little of that. Of course we take time to snag some of those traditional fridge hanging pictures that you can mail to grandma and grandpa, but the majority of your session is spent capturing the real, authentic moments that I help to naturally unfold between the two of you, giving guidance but also stepping back to then let those natural interactions happen.

As the evening unfolded, we moved from the horses to Cole’s pickup and trailer. The rugged charm of an old truck and the dusty Oklahoma backdrop made for the perfect setting. There’s something undeniably nostalgic about trucks in the country—so many love stories have unfolded in the seats of pickups, on the tailgates, or in the bed under the stars. We took advantage of that sentimental element, capturing moments of them sitting together, laughing, and simply soaking in the beauty of the evening.

And then, just when we thought the adventure was winding down, the real fun began. The deep Oklahoma sand had other plans for us, and before we knew it, we found ourselves in quite the predicament—Cole’s pickup and trailer stuck deep in the sand. It was one of those moments that could have been stressful, but instead, it only added to the memories of the day. Instead of frustration, there was laughter. Instead of worry, there was problem-solving. It was the perfect representation of how life goes—sometimes things don’t go as planned, but with the right person by your side, even the unexpected turns can become part of a great story.
Watching Cole and Chy tackle the situation together was a testament to their relationship. They didn’t panic; they just worked together, figured out what needed to be done, and made the best of it.
In the end, we got the truck and trailer out, the sun dipped below the horizon, and we wrapped up a session that was anything but ordinary. As I looked back through my camera at the images we had captured, I knew this session would be one to remember. It wasn’t just about the stunning scenery, the golden light, or the beautifully coordinated outfits—it was about Cole and Chy, their love for each other, their life together, and the way they embrace whatever comes their way.
That’s what makes a session truly special. It’s not about everything going perfectly. It’s about capturing who people are—their love, their laughter, their lives, exactly as they are. And for Cole and Chy, that meant horses, open spaces, a loyal dog, and an unexpected adventure that made their session all the more unforgettable. Western Oklahoma provided the perfect backdrop, but it was their connection, their spirit, and their story that made the photos come to life.
As I drove away that evening, dust still settling in the air behind me, I couldn’t help but smile. This is why I do what I do—not just to take photos, but to document moments that will be treasured for a lifetime. And Cole and Chy’s session? It was a perfect reminder that sometimes the best memories are made when things don’t go exactly as planned.
Dreaming of your own cowboy couples session? I am your gal! Not only is this way of life something I am immersed in myself, but I also have a deep value and love for couples who also embrace this lifestyle. I can come to you at your own ranch or you can come explore one of my many hidden gem locations here in Northwest Oklahoma. We will have a blast either way, no doubt.
