Cowboy Engagement Session in Oklahoma
Blake and Sierra traveled to me in Northwest Oklahoma to take their engagement photos on the riverbanks, with the stunning red bluffs serving as their breathtaking backdrop. These cowboy engagement photos were nothing short of magical, blending their love for each other with the rugged beauty of the Oklahoma landscape. With a passion for horses, roping, and the western way of life, it was only fitting that they included their beloved horses and dogs in their engagement photoshoot.

These two have been together for over seven years and are set to tie the knot this June, marking a new chapter in their journey together. Their love story is deeply intertwined with their shared passion for the cowboy lifestyle, spending countless hours roping, riding, and working with their animals. Naturally, they wanted their engagement photos to reflect who they are as a couple—true western souls with a deep appreciation for the land, their horses, and the life they have built together.
We started the session with them on the ground, alongside their horses and dogs. The love and connection between them and their animals were so evident—it was easy to see how much these four-legged companions mean to them. Engagement photos with dogs and horses always add a sentimental touch, making each image even more special. Their dogs, full of energy and excitement, roamed the area, adding an extra layer of personality to their session. Meanwhile, their horses stood calmly by their side, a testament to the bond they share with them.

After capturing plenty of moments with their animals, we moved on to some intimate couple portraits. The golden August sun cast the most beautiful light across the Oklahoma plains, creating a dreamy, romantic feel for their engagement session. The warmth of the sun enhanced the earthy tones of the red dirt bluffs, making for a striking contrast against the deep blues of the river water nearby. Blake and Sierra opted for an outfit change midway through the session, swapping out their casual Western attire for a more polished yet still rugged look. Sierra’s flowing dress caught the breeze just right, creating an effortless, ethereal effect as she walked hand in hand with Blake. His cowboy hat cast the perfect shadow across his face, adding that timeless western charm that so many couples love in their engagement photos.

After a few more pics with their three pups (aren’t they just the cutest?!), we then moved down to the riverbank for another stunning set of engagement portraits. The way the water reflected the golden hues of the sky made for an absolutely mesmerizing backdrop. I always encourage couples to embrace the environment and natural elements around them, and Blake and Sierra did just that—laughing, dancing, and soaking in every moment together. The riverbank offered such a peaceful setting, allowing them to be fully present with each other, away from the distractions of daily life. They got to run and twirl and just have the best time.

One of the best parts about this location here in western Oklahoma is that it looks a little different every time I shoot here. Sometimes the river is full and we can even splash around in the water and other times it has been dry for months and we get to run around on the riverbed. One thing always remains, the beautiful red bluffs in the background, making this location stunning no matter what time of year or how high the river is.

As the sun began to lower in the sky, we wrapped up their session in the most fitting way possible—Blake and Sierra saddled up and rode their horses through the sagebrush. There is something so timeless and romantic about capturing couples on horseback, especially when it’s such an integral part of their relationship. The rhythmic movement of the horses, the dust kicking up behind them, and the way they held onto each other so naturally made for some of the most breathtaking images of the evening.
Engagement sessions like this are why I love what I do. There is something so special about documenting love stories in an authentic way, allowing couples to be completely themselves while capturing their journey in a way that feels natural and meaningful. Blake and Sierra’s western engagement session was a perfect reflection of who they are, blending adventure, romance, and the undeniable beauty of the Oklahoma landscape.
